Specialist Class
Visual Art
Our art program enables the students to develop their creative and expressive capacities through making and responding to contemporary, traditional and emerging art forms. The Visual Arts program taught at Ashby is developed and implemented by a practicing artist and facilitated in a dedicated, well supplied, art space.
Performing Arts
At Ashby Primary School we value the health and well being of our students, staff and the wider community. We believe that Drama and The Performing Arts are essential to a child’s artistic and creative development.
Our students are involved in learning experiences that affect the way students think, feel and act in regard to their well being and that of others.
Drama develops a child’s spiritual, social and cultural dimensions, heightening the intellectual, creative aesthetic faculties as well as developing coordination and social skills.
Relationships, negotiation and cooperation are all necessary components of Drama lessons and performances.
Languages
At Ashby Primary School, our Language program helps students to develop an understanding of the Indonesian language and culture.
Students will practice pronouncing words and short sentences with others and will gain confidence with unfamiliar Indonesian words.
The students will learn to count in Indonesian, basic greetings, colours, animals and much more. The Language classroom is an engaging space with displays, posters and student work that are ever changing with the students interests and topics.
Students will have the opportunity to compare the Indonesian and Australian cultures, food, and language so they can gain an understanding and appreciation for the country and the people living there.
Physical & Health Education
At Ashby Primary School we believe in making sure that all of our community members, and in particular our students, are active and healthy citizens. We place a strong emphasis on physical and health education and our students are exposed to this via weekly Physical Education and Health lessons delivered by a specialist teacher.
We expose our students to a rigorous and purposeful program that aims to build their core fundamental motor skills from an early age through to our older students applying their high levels of skills in structured activities, games, and sports.
In addition to this, students in Grades 3-6 also participate in dedicated sport lessons which are facilitated by classroom teachers. This is aimed at building the capacity of our students to work as part of a team and within a cooperative environment.
Students at Ashby Primary School engage in whole school events such as our annual Cross Country, Athletics Carnival and our Swimming Programs.
As a school we involved with inter-school sporting events that are organised by School Sport Victoria. This involves both Winter and Lightning Premierships (T-Ball, Volleyball, Football, Cricket, Netball, Basketball) and Hot Shots Tennis Carnival.
